Refreshing Selkirk College's Visual Identity

Standing Out for Long-Term Sustainability

—From the desk of Maggie Keczan, Director of Communications & Public Engagement

The Marketing and Communications teams are working on new initiatives to help position the college for long-term sustainability and growth in alignment with the strategic plan and strategic enrolment framework.

You may remember that part of the strategic plan discovery phase asked the community to comment on Selkirk College’s visual identity, specifically our logo and what they feel it represents. We heard that our logo doesn’t stand out in the current landscape, doesn’t feel as fresh or modern as other colleges in the province and doesn’t really communicate what Selkirk College is all about.

We’re working with Bravo Tango on a visual identity refresh. Together with a working group of people from across the college, we’re collaborating on a new brand promise, a new brand strategy and a logo refresh. This project will help us showcase what sets Selkirk College apart and give us the tools to tell our story.

We’re excited to unveil the new visual identity at the Employee Welcome Back BBQ. We will officially roll it out to the larger community in phases, starting with materials targeting prospective students through the fall.

This project isn’t only about what our brand looks and sounds like—it’s about how we use it. We'll be empowering schools and programs to take a more active role in promotion, and we will roll out enhanced tools and templates to support consistent brand stewardship across the college. We will also provide training, resources and ongoing support. This decentralized approach will allow each area to highlight its unique strengths and offerings.

To ensure a smooth transition, we'll offer training sessions for those supporting schools and departments. Our new approach will officially begin on September 1, 2025.

The Marketing and Communications teams will be focusing on institutional marketing, raising the perception of the college, breaking into new markets, promoting programming in alignment with strategic enrolment plans and supporting brand awareness—bringing the new brand promise to life in our region and beyond, in alignment with Policy 2500

We’re excited to work with you to launch Selkirk College’s refreshed visual identity in a positive and meaningful way. Please take a few minutes to provide your feedback and ideas. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact me.
