Security Hours at Castlegar Campus Shifting to Align with Need

The Updated Hours Will Better Serve the New Student Housing Building

In the new year, the security hours at the Castlegar Campus will shift to better align with identified needs and to prepare for an influx of new students living on campus when the new student housing building is complete.

An increasing number of incidents reported after 3 pm is prompting the change to new security hours of Tuesday–Saturday, 3–11 pm. As very few incidents have been reported before 3 pm, the hours are shifting from the current schedule of Monday–Friday, 8 am–4:30 pm.

“The security of employees and students is paramount, and we’ve been reviewing our operations to ensure that we’re aligning our services with what’s actually taking place on campus,” says Director of Facilities & Business Services Donna Drover. “We’re taking a data-driven approach and refocusing security hours to meet documented incidents.”

This refocusing of security hours also anticipates a significant increase in students on campus after 3 pm in 2024, when the 114-bed housing building is complete. It also brings the Castlegar Campus security operations into alignment with other campuses with student housing.

It’s important to know that if there is an emergency on campus—whether there is a security guard on site or not—the best course of action is to call 911.
