I’m excited to announce a small but significant change. The School of The Arts has expanded its reference to become the School of Arts & Technology.

We aim to realize three goals with this name change. The first is to more accurately reflect the programs within the school: Digital Arts, Contemporary Music & Technology, Digital Fabrication & Design and Full-Stack Web Development, along with Kootenay Studio Arts (KSA) programs: Blacksmithing & Metal Art, Textile Arts and Ceramics.

Second, we hope the addition of “technology” will support recruitment efforts of students looking for arts-related career programs and enhance access for international students for whom approval rates can be tied to labour-market demands.

Of course, technology is part of all schools at Selkirk College. By highlighting the digital technology that is essential to our arts programs, we also hope to broadcast the spirit of innovation that Selkirk College is known for.
