Network Upgrades on the Castlegar Campus
Benefits Include Faster Connectivity and Improved Reliability
IT Services is upgrading network infrastructure in the Upper-/Lower-O Wing and The Pit from March 6 to March 31.
What’s Changing?
This upgrade will include the installation of new network cabling and data drops in each office, replacing existing wiring. It will provide several benefits, including:
- Faster network and internet connectivity
- Improved reliability for access to college resources
- Increased number of physical network connections in offices
- Improved Wi-Fi connectivity
What to Expect
- Hallway work (March 8-31): We will begin by pre-installing network cabling in the hallways, with effects to minimize disruptions in these areas. Installations will start in the east and end in the west.
- Office work (March 17-31): To install new data drops, some office furniture, including desks, may need to be temporarily moved. Expect minor disruptions within offices in the affected areas.
- Wireless service: Wireless connectivity in the affected areas may be sporadically disrupted as we migrate to improved network connections.
Scheduling and Work Arrangements
If your office is affected, working from home on scheduled installation days may be more comfortable. IT Services will notify employees in advance when their office is scheduled for work.
