Introducing Our New Identity Management System

It Enhances Security, Efficiency and the User Experience

—From the desk of Nick Howald, CIO

I’m excited to announce an important upgrade to how we manage employee and student identities. Our current identity management (IDM) system has served us for many years, but it's time for a modernization effort that enhances security, efficiency and user experience.

What’s Changing?

Our new IDM system removes legacy technology while retaining key integrations with core systems like SRS and Unit 4. Accounts for new employees and incoming students will be created as soon as needed. More critically, access will be promptly removed when it is no longer required, improving security and compliance.

Key Features and Benefits

  • Self-Service Password Reset
Users will be able to reset their own passwords using Microsoft’s self-service reset functionality, making access recovery faster and easier. This eliminates the need to contact IT Services for a password reset.
  • Support for Chosen Names
Students will have the option to use a chosen name instead of their legal name for usernames, display names and email addresses. This is a significant step in supporting diversity, inclusion and personal identity preferences.
  • Stronger Security and Compliance
By streamlining identity management and automating access controls, we reduce risks and ensure that accounts remain active only when necessary.

What It Means for You

The new IDM will provide a smoother experience for all users, making it easier to access the tools and resources needed for work and study while ensuring that our security and compliance measures remain robust.

IT Services has worked closely with Human Resources and the Registrar’s Office on the new system, and we appreciate your patience as we make the transition.

Stay tuned for more updates!
