Access New Resources and Join a Community of Practice

—From the desk of Jessica Morin, Indigenous Education Developer

Dear Colleagues,

way' / ki’su’k kyukyit / taanishi / hello!

I am thrilled to be back at Selkirk College working as the Indigenous education developer with Indigenous Services and the Teaching & Learning Centre!

Over the summer, I have been working on a series of resources for a Selkirk Keep Teaching course and am excited to be slowly launching those resources this fall. These resources are designed as mini modules, and they will be self-paced so people can review the various topics when it is convenient.

Join an Indigenous Education Community of Practice

To complement these resources, I would also like to invite you to join me on a dedicated Indigenous Education Community of Practice. We will hold a monthly learning circle over Teams to discuss the module topics! During the learning circles, we will gather and reflect on resources provided in the modules, and we will cover one module/topic each month. Eventually the series will be repeated, and there will be additional opportunities for connecting in case you can’t make it to a session, but really want to discuss with your colleagues.

If you would like to join the community, please email me and I will add you to the Team.

You can join the Team even if you can’t come to the sessions! In the Team, I will post lots of information, including relevant events, activities and additional resources. It will be a “come when you can” type of Team, no big commitments, just a place to gather, share and discuss Indigenous education at Selkirk College.

Learning Circles

The Learning Circles will be held on Teams on the second Tuesday of each month from 12–1 pm:

  • October 8
  • November 12
  • December 10
  • January 14
  • February 11
  • March 11
  • April 8

I will send out calendar invites. Please feel free to accept or decline, whatever works for you!

Connect with Me

Reach out anytime! As part of my work, I am here to meet with you and support your Indigenization goals. I know there are some of you doing amazing work out there, and I would love to hear about what you are doing to Indigenize your courses or your learning spaces.

I am also available to meet with folks who have ideas but might need someone to talk to about implementation or strategies to work toward your goals.

I look forward to working with you!

Wishing you all a wonderful term. Happy teaching and happy learning!

All my relations,

Jessica Morin
