Castlegar Campus Connecting to City Waterline

Work Expected to Complete by Early 2024

Update: January 2024

The project to connect the Castlegar Campus to the City of Castlegar water supply is progressing well and on track for completion this spring.

At this phase in the project, there is open excavation and construction equipment operating in various places around the campus. Please avoid walking in these areas.

Due to construction, access to the Mir Centre for Peace will be closed until February 2.

A priority in the college’s Five-Year Capital Plan, construction activity on the project that will see the Castlegar Campus connected to the City of Castlegar water supply is underway at the south end of campus, and along the length of Frank Beinder Way to the water supply tie-in point at Heritage Way.

Watermain Construction on Castlegar Campus

The existing well pump houses and associated equipment have reached end-of-life and would require significant upgrades to remain operational. Completion of this project will not only ensure a safe and stable source of water for the entire campus community, it will also be an important component of any fire situations that may arise in the future.

The college, with support from our civil engineer WSA Engineering, has awarded the project to MarWest Industries. Critical path discussions have been ongoing with the Ministry of Transportation, FortisBC, Interior Health, and the City of Castlegar to ensure that all parties are in alignment to successfully complete the project by early 2024.

As this work continues on the south end of the campus—adjacent to the playing fields, Mir Centre for Peace and along Frank Beinder Way—please be mindful that there may be disruptions over the coming weeks. We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding while this essential piece of college infrastructure gets completed.
