Recognizing Dedication Among Selkirk Employees

Annual Employment & Retirement Dinner Held on Castlegar Campus

 

Selkirk College recently celebrated the milestones and achievements of the dedicated employees who enrich our place of work every day.

Hosted by the Selkirk College Human Resources Department on May 23, this year’s annual dinner celebrated a sense of togetherness fostered on campus.

Selkirk College Director of HR Arleen Gallo quoted the inspiring little book Together is Better.

"The ability of a group of people to do remarkable things hinges on how well those people can pull together as a team," she read.

This year’s National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) Excellence Award winners were Marianne Batty, Shirley Hadikin, Craig McCallum, Christine Schmidt, Carol Ridge. Established in 1991, the NISOD awards shine a light on employees who demonstrate an outstanding commitment and contribution to their students and colleagues.

Alison Roy was the winner of this year's Sustainability Award for her work with the Transitional Training class at Silver King Campus.

30 Years of Service – Kerry Young, Kasandra Mackelir, Paul Landsberg, Steven Parish

25 Years of Service – Christine Sutherland, Caroline Barabonow, Larry McHenry, Eric Moon, Esther Storvold

20 Years of Service – Sarah Fawcett, Andrea Kosling, Wren Mcelroy, Terry Balyk, Theresa Southam, Daryl Jolly, Darrell Hicks, Garth Forsyth, Lori Barkley, David Feldman, Lui Marinelli, Rena Vandenbos, Kerry Pagdin, Paris Voykin, Luree Gould, Sabrina Van Hellemond, Romany Watt-Osecki, Krista Mannle.

Retirees were recognized for their contribution to the college with emotional speeches by colleagues and the retirees themselves. Larry (Mac) McHenry, Susan Kanigan, Rosalyn Cromier, Judy McIvor, Randy Janzen, Christette Cromarty, Olga Sherstobitoff, Leslie Comrie, Henri Bureaud, Sue Hackett, Susan Hill, Teresa Petrick, Anne Verkerk, David Stryck.

President Angus Graeme marvelled at the cumulative years of service, not including retirees, adding up to 515 years.

"This is an incredible event where we can celebrate who we are and what we contribute to the college and our community, the pride in our work and what we do for students every day of the year," he said.
