Get Involved in Educational Governance

Nominations for Board of Governors and Education Council Open May 1

 

Looking for an opportunity to be involved in educational governance? Becoming a member of the Selkirk College Board of Governors or Education Council can provide this avenue.

Board of Governors is comprised of:

  • Eight or more persons appointed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council
  • One person on the faculty of the institution and elected by the faculty members.
  • Two students elected by the students.
  • One person who is part of the support staff and elected by the support staff.
  • The president, and;
  • The chair of the education council.

Education Council is comprised of:

  • Four Students elected from the student body in September each year.
  • Ten Faculty members: five elected from each of the BCGEU & SCFA employee groups and on a bi-annual basis.
  • Two PPWC members elected in the late fall and on a bi-annual basis (October 2018).
  • One Exempt staff member elected annually.
  • Four Educational Administrators appointed by the President

The time requirement to prepare for and attend Board of Governors or Education Council and related meetings can range from about two to four hours a month over a seven to eight month period. More information is available on MySelkirk about the Board of Governors and our Education Council.

The 2017 election procedure for SCFA, BCGEU and Exempt members has been set to commence on May 1, 2017. The election process will be conducted online through Moodle.

Through your listserve Natasha Makortoff will email reminders for when nominations are due as well as when elections start and end.

  • Nomination Period: Monday, May 1, 2017 8:00 am – Wednesday, May 17, 2017 8:00 am
  • Campaign Period: Wednesday, May 17, 2017 1:00 pm – Tuesday, May 23, 2017 8:00 am
  • Election Period: Tuesday, May 23, 2017 1:00 pm – Monday, May 29, 2017 8:00 am
  • Nominees Notified: Monday, May 29, 2017
  • Results Announced: Wednesday, May 31, 2015
