Indigenization Task Force Members Sought

This is to request expressions of interest for Selkirk College staff of indigenous descent to join the Task Force on the Governance Process for the Indigenization of Education. The Task Force is currently looking for two members.

In August 2016, Education Council (EdCo) approved the Terms of Reference - Indigenization Task Force for the newly formed Task Force on the Governance Process for the Indigenization of Education (GPIE). The purpose of this task force is to provide advice to EdCo regarding how to indigenize the Council's work, in particular regarding curriculum and program development, educational policies and processes.

Membership is also to include two members from the College staff of indigenous descent. The Task Force is in the very initial stages of its work and anticipates its work to take place over at least a couple of years. The next tentatively scheduled meeting for the Task Force is January 23, 2017.

Please note that Selkirk College has also recently signed the CICAN Indigenous Education protocol. To get a better idea of some of the elements of indigenization, you can read online.

Deans and Chairs were advised of this task force in September 2016. If you are interested in participating in this important initial work, please provide a brief one or two paragraph expression of interest outlining why you are interested in participating in this Task Force and how you believe you could contribute to the Task Force.

Please provide your expression of interest to Tiffany Snauwaert, Education Council Chair and Chair of the GPIE Task Force, via email on or before December 22, 2016.
