Research Ethics Committee – Human Subjects
Submission deadline for research applications to be reviewed by the REC-HS, eight days before the next REC-HS meeting. Student research projects will be expedited. —November 2, 2012
SCFA Common PD Fund hits a new high —- or rather a new low
For the first time ever, applications to the SCFA Common PD Fund have exceeded the funding available. Therefore, effective immediately, no new applications will be accepted for 2012/13.—October 23, 2012
CCID is reborn…
Earlier this year, Vi Kalesnikoff retired as the Dean of Community, Corporate and International Development (CCID). About the same time Jim O’Meara (then Manager for Continuing Education and Distributed Learning) moved over to take on the position of Associate Registrar. In replacing these two positions, we revamped the division to have two specific focus areas. Now that the dust has settled I’d like to re-introduce them.—October 2, 2012
Call For Donations For Tree of Sharing Garage Sale

Upcoming Staff Meetings

NSERC Industrial Research Chair Competition
In partnership with the College of the Rockies, Selkirk College is applying for an NSERC (Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council) Industrial Research Chair for Colleges (IRCC) in Process and Resource Optimization.—September 25, 2012
Staff Photos Updated
A photographer will be available to take pictures of faculty/staff who need their photos updated for use in marketing materials and on the website. Photos will be taken on a first come, first served basis. Although there have been times blocked for various schools, all staff are welcome to attend any time slot on Oct 3rd, 4th, 5th and 15th.—September 18, 2012
LTAC Innovation Funding: Proposal Deadline
LTAC, in collaboration with the Teaching and Learning Institute, is currently accepting proposals for funding from staff who would like to test/pilot a new type of teaching delivery or enhance an existing method but require some technology. —September 18, 2012
New Library Hours
Late hours at the Library will not be starting until the last week of September. Thus from now until September 21st we will be open 7:30 to 5:00 p.m. Monday - Friday.—September 14, 2012
Website & MySelkirk Update
The college’s web renewal project team has been hard at work over the summer developing page designs, information architecture, creating new content, updating current content and much more all in preparation for the launch of the new site.—September 13, 2012

Visit From Deputy Minister of Advanced Education
On Thursday, July 19th, the Deputy Minister of Advanced Education, Cheryl Wenezenki – Yolland, spent the day with Angus here at the college. She was able to visit Castlegar, Silver King and Tenth Street campuses ending the visit in the Shambhala Music and Performance Hall.—July 31, 2012
KSA is now Kootenay Studio Arts
Staff and faculty at KSA have been working into the summer to finalize plans for renewed studio- based craft programming in Nelson starting in September 2012. Please expect more detailed information as we get closer to the beginning of the fall semester.—July 31, 2012
Summer Wishes
With July here, I’m reminded that summer is the time for some to take a break while others are very busy working to prepare the college for the next intake of students in Sept. Building Service Worker Certification Course Starting May 28th
This is an introduction to custodial/housekeeping operations (both theory and practical applications) used in cleaning procedures for all surfaces. Students will also complete the certification with OFA1, WHMIS, and resume instruction.—May 7, 2012

There have been some policies approved by the Policy Review Committee for circulation to the college community. The Policy Review Committee reviews existing policy on a regular basis in order to incorporate your input and to ensure that written policy reflects actual practice. The fiscal year-end for 2012/2013 is March 31, 2013. In preparation for auditors please review procedures that must be followed by the Finance Department to ensure efficient and effective year-end closing. —March 7, 2013
Grad Committee 2013 Needs More Volunteers
The Grad Committee for 2013 is meeting on a regular basis to ensure this wonderful event comes off without a hitch. At this time we have had a few staff come forward to say they would like to participate, but we need more people. Campus Easter Hours of Operation
Selkirk College will be closed on Friday March 29th and Monday April 1st. There will be no heat or other services programmed during these days. The Nelson and Castlegar campuses will be open for business during their regular hours on both Saturday and Sunday. Have a great long weekend!—March 27, 2013

Call for Gala 2013 Auction Team Proposals
Gala 2013 offers faculty and staff the opportunity to raise funds for their program to support projects, competitions, field trips and student awards. Changes Coming to Nelson Internal Phone System April 15th
All Nelson college campuses phone extensions will be adjusted to a five digit number by adding a 1 at the beginning of the existing four numbers. This will prepare the Nelson campuses for the upgrading to the Castelgar phone system. The change takes effect on Monday, April 15.—April 10, 2013
