Intercultural Week Bigger Than Ever

November Throws Spotlight on International Education

 

International Education Week is an annual celebration of international education during the third week of November. Selkirk College has a rich diversity and is ready to highlight it with events leading up to and including Intercultural Week from November 13 to 24.

What’s in store includes anticipated annual events and new ones. Here’s what is happening…

Saturday, November 4

There will be an immigration workshop on both the Castlegar Campus from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. (Room K10) and Nelson’s Tenth Street Campus from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. (Room P303). During this information session a Licensed Immigration Consultant will be on campus to talk about international students regulations and options for permanent residency. This is open to all international students.

Tuesday, November 14 to Friday, November 17

The Ripple Café on the Castlegar Campus will feature a week’s worth of lunch specials featuring international and cultural foods from around the world. Follow your nose to the cafeteria and indulge your taste buds with extraordinary flavours

  • November 14 - Thai Food: Thai Basil Chicken (Gai Pad Krapow) Served with Basmati Rice.
  • November 15 - Chinese food: Cashew Pork Chow Mein. Stir-Fry Pork with Vegetables and Cashews, served over noodles.
  • November 16 - Indian food: Lamb Rogan Josh-Boneless Lamb Slow Cooked with Yogurt & Traditional Indian Warm Spices. Served with Basmati Rice & Naan Bread.
  • November 17 - Mexican food: Chicken or Black Bean & Rice Enchilada. Served with Salsa, Sour Cream, and Guacamole & Choice of Salad or Soup.

Thursday, November 16

The annual Intercultural Fair is one of the most anticipated and attended events in the academic year. This year’s event in The Pit on the Castlegar Campus will once again feature students from across the world sharing their culture, food and language with students, staff and the whole community. The fair runs between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Friday, November 24

The Intercultural Dance Show has really taken off over the last couple years and this year’s event in the Gymnasium on the Castlegar Campus is going to be the best yet! Come and watch the students from different countries perform their traditional and modern dances between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Free snacks will be provided and there will be two door prizes of $100 tuition credit for the audience.

Intercultural Week Two

Organizers are now accepting all dancers and dance groups for the performance. Please sign up to perform by November 14 by contacting Marie-Josee Leonard in office O131 or Robin in the Students’ Union Office.
