Early Alert Support System Opens for Fall 2022

Early Alert is open from Friday, September 9–Friday, October 7, 2022.

Early Alert, Selkirk College's referral and outreach program, was created to help connect students who may be facing challenges in their courses or programs with appropriate college services.

This fall, Early Alert is open from Friday, September 9–Friday, October 7, 2022.

Often, academic difficulties are linked to other issues in a student’s life and can result in poor attendance, low exam results or stress and anxiety. For the past couple of years, students have been experiencing additional stressors related to COVID-19, a shifting college landscape, increased financial pressure and housing insecurity. The earlier an issue is addressed, the greater a student’s chance of success.

Instructors are strongly encouraged to evaluate and provide feedback to students early in the semester (Selkirk College Policy 8613), which helps identify students who may need support.

Who Can Use Early Alert?

While Early Alert is primarily used by instructors, any Selkirk College employee who has concerns about a student’s ability to succeed in their program may submit the simple online form. A member of Student Access & Support will make every effort to contact students directly, touch base and connect them with supports offered at Selkirk College.

Use the online form: https://forms.selkirk.ca/view.php?id=90485.

Questions?

This fall, Early Alert is open Friday, September 9–Friday, October 7, 2022 Support is available for students throughout the year; however, focusing on the first few weeks can help students make changes that may improve their performance before they fall too far behind.
