Check Out the Photo Gallery and Find Links to the Past
With four straight British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League titles in a row, the Selkirk College Saints hockey team is an important focus of pride for students, staff and the community. The historic run the student athletes have been on is a reminder of just how important athletics and recreation are to college life.
As Selkirk College gets set to kick off our 50th Anniversary celebrations this September, staff have been busy digging through boxes of history that chronicles five decades of learning in the West Kootenay and Boundary. One of the recent boxes we have dusted off features competitive and recreational sport. It’s an interesting look back at just how rich our athletics history is and throws a spotlight on those who have been involved.
Now comes the interactive part...
Though we are great at providing a post-secondary experience close to home that is fulfilling both inside and outside the classroom, over the years it appears we are not so great at keeping track of some of the important details that go along with these images from our past. So we are asking for your help. Head to the Facebbok photo gallery we have posted on our main page which can be found here. Scroll through the gallery and enjoy the different eras of athletic wear, hairstyles and moustache trends. While you’re at, if you find something or someone familiar in one of these images… tag yourself (or a friend) and perhaps provide a comment. Let’s bring this history to life and provide some context. And please share this album on your own Facebook page so we spread it far and wide.
If you were involved in athletics over the last 50 years and have something more substantial you would like to contribute to documenting this important area of Selkirk College, feel free to contact Communications Coordinator Bob Hall via email with other photos, stories or memorabilia you would like to loan us for the coming year’s festivities.
Enjoy the look back!
