After taking some time off with my family in July, and a spending a somewhat quiet August working at the college, I am so looking forward to what is always a busy but exciting September: seeing so many of our students arriving, the “Get Connected” student welcome events, the new employee welcome, and various other activities that mark the turn of the season and the start of a new college year.
If you are a new employee who has recently started with us, welcome! I hope your orientation and first few weeks unfold smoothly, and that you have the support you need to have a successful start to your career with us. I hope to meet you personally in the coming weeks.
If you are an employee who is just back from some summer vacation, welcome back! I hope you have had a restful and rejuvenating break with loved ones and are ready for another great year at Selkirk College.
If you are an employee who has been working through the summer either teaching, completing projects to get us ready for the year, maintaining the operation, or bringing in new students, thank you! The college must carry on even through the summer months and I appreciate that because of you, we will be ready for another amazing year.
Our number one focus in everything we do at Selkirk College is our students. Every employee, regardless of role, has an impact on the quality of their learning and life experiences while they are with us. Our mission statement calls us to undertake three simple but profound actions each day for our learners: to inspire, to transform, and to serve. The work that we do together to create learning experiences that are inspiring, transforming and serving our students is what I look forward to working on every day. Education is all about raising people up and empowering them to be confident and successful in all of their diverse and important futures. And it is such a privilege to be a part of this work with them and with you.
