Open House For Potential Business Administration Students
Do you have an interest in high finance or an entrepreneurial talent that is just waiting to be tapped? Are you interested in learning more about the types of career paths open to those with post-secondary training in management or accounting?
An Opportunity to Connect & Learn
On Monday, August 12th, Selkirk College is holding an Open House for potential students who would like to learn more about the Business Administration program. The event will take place from 2:00 to 4:00 pm in the library at Selkirk's Castlegar campus.
Interim school chair Rita Williams says the event is a great way to connect with program staff and faculty, and to learn about various courses in a casual, relaxed atmosphere.
"This is a good starting point for anybody who has an interest in the Business Administration program and wants to know more," she says. "We'll be there to answer any questions and offer planning tools and materials to students who may not know exactly what they're looking for."
Williams says that Selkirk's two-year Diploma program is perfect for students who want a practical, career-focused experience as well as those who are thinking about moving on to complete a four-year Degree.
"We're well-connected with other institutions around the province and we're always working to broaden those relationships so that students who want to transfer to university have good opportunities to do so."
Learning Practical, Career-Based Skills for the Modern Workplace
The program is also attractive to students who want to leave the door open to a wide range of career options.
"Even if you're not 100% sure what you want to be, learning the basic computer, business and finance skills are beneficial for everybody," says Williams. "In most jobs there's a demand to be able to work with technology, which is an area we focus on."
"We see a number of mature students with a wide range of ages, from mid-20s to grandparents. Some are going to college for the first time and others are re-training, so there are lots of motivations for coming in to the program."
The Open House on Monday is also a great opportunity for potential students to learn about what's new in the program.
"This is the first year where we're offering a post-graduate diploma for those who already have a degree in another field, so we're very excited for that."
