We're Going To Guatemala

International Nursing Practice Experience

We are a part of a group of fourteen nursing students who have been chosen to participate in this international nursing practice experience as a component of our Baccalaureate Degree Program through the University of Victoria at Selkirk College.

We are currently in our 3rd year of Nursing at Selkirk College and have just been accepted to complete our last year and a half through the University of Victoria. We have had a wide variety of practice experiences. We have been in extended care, medical, surgical, maternity, pediatrics, mental health, emergency and a few more.

About Our Trip To Guatemala

We will be going in mid-April until the end of May. During this experience we will explore how community development and health are positively linked and will deepen our understanding of how community empowerment and solidarity globally are integral to our future nursing practice.

We will address fundamental social issues such as poverty, inequality, discrimination and human rights violations.

Fundraising Beans & Rice Dinners

As a group we are attempting to raise $34,000 to participate in this unique experience and we will be hosting a number of fundraising events throughout the region, as well as accepting donations. We recently hosted a ‘Beans & Rice’ dinner in Salmo for a fundraiser and it was very successful!

Stay tuned for more upcoming information on fundraisers and the date of the Beans & Rice dinner.

Gracias! Adiós for now!
