Alison Roy is an Academic Upgrading and Development instructor for Transitional Training at the Grand Forks Learning Centre. She has a Bachelor of Education from the University of Alberta, and is currently working on her Masters in Education from the University of Calgary, specializing in Adult, Community and Higher Education.
She lives in Nelson, having moved with her husband five years ago to live in the 'beautiful mountains'. They enjoy outdoor activities, such as mountain biking, hiking and skiing. Alison also loves curling, and has played since she was in grade four! It is one winter hobby that gets her out of the house on the dark evenings.
Alison is inspired for teaching by the wise words of Socrates. She sees something very magical about teaching. The fire within each of us can be very powerful. Alison hopes to always guide and support the fire for learning in others.
“Education is the kindling of a flame, not the filling of a vessel.” ― Socrates
Another inspirational quotation reminds Alison of the power of humour and laughing. “I think you learn more if you're laughing at the same time.” ― Mary Ann Shaffer
