Trail Fundraising Awareness Event Goes September 18
Selkirk College ABE instructor Jennifer Cliff-Marks is taking part in a September 18 fundraiser from 8:00 p.m. until 8:00 a.m. The Coins for Change fundraiser is an initiative that started last year to raise both awareness and money for the Getting to Home: Addressing Homelessness in Greater Trail program.
The Coins for Change event happens on the Esplanade under the Victoria Street Bridge. Cliff-Marks will be joining people from various Trail organizations to spend the night under the bridge, and she is asking for your pledge.
Getting to Home: Addressing Homelessness in Greater Trailprogramstarted in 2012 as a joint project between Career Development Services and The Greater Trail Community Skills Centre as the growing numbers of individuals living homeless or at risk of losing their housing in the community seemed to be increasing. Initially, funding was secured for one year and was a great success. Within the first year the housing facilitators worked with 83 clients, successfully housing 55 of them. To date, the program has worked with over 280 individuals, providing housing supports as well as collaborating with other service providers to ensure those at risk or homeless are receiving the much needed supports to find and sustain housing.
Although, CDS and the Skills Centre in Trail have managed to maintain the program, this much needed program is at risk without financial support.
“I think you would agree that everyone deserves to feel safe and have a place they call home, so help us make this event even more successful this year,” says Cliff-Marks.
You can pledge a flat amount or pledge an amount per number of hours that you think I will last sleeping under the bridge.
