Current Students Showcasing 50 Years

The 50th planning committee is asking School Chairs to engage with their departments in the development and planning of school specific 50th anniversary celebrations or initiatives that are unique to that specific study area (i.e. forestry, nursing, digital arts, business, creative writing).

These can occur anytime throughout the 2016-17 school year and we are recommending ideas that can be easily implemented within existing curriculum or school specific activity (to be themed 50th).

The 50th school specific engagement started off with a 50th presentation to deans and chairs on October 6, 2015.

This space will also showcase departments and programs that are embracing 50 years in their projects and curriculum.

The school of Business kick-started this initiative by holding a competition for their marketing class. View the winning powerpoint and winning brief. They held a successful Scavenger Hunt and also put on a fundraising dunk tank at the Homecoming Celebration on September 17.

As indicated in the PowerPoint presentation to the deans and chairs, there are funds available for these initiatives, in the case of the business students, they will be allocated $1000 for their faculty and students to activate winning “pitch." See an example of a "pitch request template" to/for students.

The Nursing students also worked with nursing alumni on historic elements specific to to the training and career evolution of the industry and Selkirk College’s role. Their fashion show held at the Homecoming community event was a hit. See the pictures at selkirk.ca
