Teaching & Learning Centre

Supporting Excellence in Education

The Teaching & Learning Centre (TLC) provides opportunities for instructors to optimize student learning. A love of teaching keeps us all learning.

Teaching & Learning Centre Service Desk

Visit the Teaching & Learning Centre Service Desk to connect with the TLC about requesting a Moodle course or playsite, training for Moodle or Kaltura, piloting a Moodle plug-in and more.

Learning Management System Support

Visit Teach, an instance of the learning management system (LMS) Moodle, established just for instructors. Explore the Moodle Handbook and sign up for Moodle workshops, learn about new educational technology and find basic information on Selkirk Keep Teaching on topics such as course design, Indigenization, academic integrity, privacy and Universal Design for Learning.

You’ll find a list of the TLC team there too!

Make the Most of Educational Technology

Create a playsite and explore our learning technology, such as our e-portfolio software—Pebble Pad—or academic writing software support—Grammarly. A playsite is a personal course shell on Teach where you can experiment with LMS plug-ins and try new approaches before introducing them to your students. You can see the playsites developed by your colleagues for ideas and inspiration and learn about your program’s unique templates.

Professional Development

Access workshops, conferences and other resources to support your ongoing learning.

  • Listen to the Sound Education podcast for key ideas on how to keep instructors and students learning.
  • Complete some of your Provincial Instructors Diploma Program through equivalent courses, which are offered at no cost to Selkirk College instructors. Explore the list of available courses and register through Open Studies
  • Attend the annual TLC conference. Watch recordings of 2024, 2023 and 2022 conferences. Upcoming conferences will be communicated through the employee and the TLC newsletters.
  • Enrol in Great Teaching 101. This short course will help new and experienced instructors get ready and feel renewed for a term of learning.
